Mastering the art of working online

If you are wondering if online work is right for you and you want to manage your expectations realistically, here are 6 things you should know.

What Marketable Skills Do You Have?
The easiest way to get started with online work is to leverage skills you already have. So ask yourself, what do you know today that can bring in money immediately?

Give Yourself Permission to Find What Works for You
As we know women are constantly balancing career, motherhood, a household, a relationship and so much more. Every woman will have a different answer to how much time she can give to online work. So, don’t compare yourself with others – instead find what works for you and your family.

Build a Strong Support System
This is crucial. It’s imperative to have people around you to depend on. Everyone, from your spouse and in-laws, to parents, siblings, friends and relatives can be approached for help. Let them know in advance what you intend to do, seek their support and be specific with your requirements.

It’s Never Too Late to Start
There’s a saying that goes “The best time to start was 10 years ago. The next best time is now”. Most people regret the stuff they don’t do in life not the stuff they do, not the stuff they try to do and not even the stuff they tried and failed at. You can do this; just take the first step, which is to give yourself permission to find what makes you happy.

Stop Feeling Guilty
Sometimes I think we women are wired to feel guilty no matter what we do! Office work? Oh no, kids are being neglected. Staying at home? Geez, education is going to waste. In order to feel fulfilled and happy with yourself, stop giving yourself a guilt trip. It’s okay to want to work, it’s okay to want to spend time with your kids, and it’s okay to choose to do both.

Working from Home Takes Discipline And Motivation
I won’t kid you; it’s not an easy road. It’s even more difficult than working in an office with a boss because no one’s going to push you, all the motivation has to come from within you. You have to deal with isolation, no structured work hours, lack of motivation, etc. all on your own. It’s not for everyone but if you can do it, the rewards are great!
