How to know that entrepreneurship is your forte

Entrepreneurship is defying fate, luck and destiny, because you can – Anonymous

UntitledPeople often call themselves an entrepreneur just because they desperately want to be one. People with a Computer Science background often think they can be the next Mark Zuckerberg because they love him a little too much. Similar fascinations hold true for those who are currently studying fashion designing, journalism, law or just about any other field. But that is when reality steps in and shakes its head. Not everyone is meant to be an entrepreneur and not everyone can be one either.

Here are a few entrepreneurial qualities you must see in yourself in order to be one.

Yes you are very motivated and totally into what your work is but that doesn’t mean you are the type of passionate that an entrepreneur is. That type of passion doesn’t die after failure but instead it increases to maddening level.

“I wanted to be a game programmer but then I failed a programming course. I think I need to think of alternatives” says Sara a CS sophomore. That is not passion. It is a dream. Learn the difference.

Refusal to rejection
“Every time we launch a feature, people yell at us.” —Angelo Sotira, deviantART, Co-founder

Someone tells you that you are not fit for what you are passionate about and you stop? That will not make you an entrepreneur but will make you a pushover instead. Make it work. Say “NO!” to a “no.

Desire to beat the competition
Being competitive is one of the most dominant qualities an entrepreneur should have. It is true that extreme competition will leave you with no friends and more enemies but that is okay. There will always be friends once your entrepreneurial idea gets to the top. Sell yourself as the best there is and don’t just use the words, prove them too. For a Pakistani women, the competition is not something that will be new to them. Studies have shown that Pakistani women tend to be more competitive than most of their South Asian counterparts.

“Don’t be cocky. Don’t be flashy. There’s always someone better than you.” —Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO

Don’t just think outside the box, delete the box
Founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos said “Entrepreneurs must be willing to be misunderstood for long periods of time.”

It is completely okay to be considered a crazy idea generator by the society if you believe in your idea. Come up with things that can change the world and that is how you will be considered a true entrepreneur. Beat the odds and obsolete techniques. Your innovation and creativity are your only key tools.

Surprise the world!
An entrepreneur is never predictable. No one but they themselves have any idea about what they might come up with next. Consider the person who came up with the idea of jam-filled donuts. Who knew that donuts could contain jam inside? That is the unpredictability an entrepreneur should aim for.

Charm people
If you are a socially awkward or shy, the chances of your ideas getting you somewhere in the market are very less. An entrepreneur has to have the best people skills. He/she needs to be socially comfortable and loved by people. But there is a roundabout way to that: get a partner with the social skills to balance yours. That is a tried and tested technique which will work for you.

Being an entrepreneur is not your bread earning technique or your dream; it is a lifestyle that you must embrace fully. is the best place to establish yourself as one of the few women entrepreneurs in Pakistan. Register now and nurture the inner entrepreneur in you!
