Men vs Women: The confidence gap

Do you wonder if your success depends on confidence? YES it does. Success really does depend as much on being confident in your work as it does on being competent to do the work.

Women are generally considered as the weaker sex(as if!). Lack of self-assurance and lack of competence results in lack of confidence. However, in contrary to this argument, there are many living examples in Pakistan of women who climbed up the corporate ladder, be it in politics or workplace.

Here are few tips that you should follow in order to be confident:

Love what you do

love what you do

When you are on a mission, you can move mountains. If you are passionate about what you do, you will certainly be successful.  If ever at workplace somebody tries to turn you down prove them that what you can do, they can’t.

Connect and support each other

Strengthen your confidence in the corporate world by having each other’s support. If somebody at workplace makes your colleague feels that she’s not capable of doing something then it’s your job to make things happen for her by encouraging her, motivating her and boosting her confidence.

Women who are naturally confident face a lifetime of criticism that attempts to break down that confidence. Hence, be that motivation that helps them succeed because of their confidence.

Know your strengths and weaknesses

As you learn who you are, you gain confidence in your strengths and also learn your weaknesses. ~Angela Birt

Learning who you are doesn’t happen overnight. For one thing, it can be hard to know which parts of you are you, and which parts are who you think you should be. A good start is to identify your strengths and weaknesses and then weigh those against what you enjoy.

Take risks

Doing something that you have always done won’t strengthen your confidence. You already know what you excel at. Try something different after every alternate time. Move out of your comfort zone and see how things can increase your confidence level when you take a step ahead.

Practice confidence

Like anything else in life, your confidence will improve with practice. A great opportunity to do this is when you meet new people. Just like if you were the new kid in school, they have no idea who you are—meaning you have an opportunity to show them.

In studies, men overestimate their abilities and performance, and women underestimate both. Their performances do not differ in quality.

This is a golden opportunity, so don’t miss it my stumbling, stammering or hunching. Be confident as you introduce yourself to other in the professional circle.

We live in a society where people question about our confidence level and so does our inner voices. Go against your inner voices and register with! Show the world what you’re capable of.
